Australia is starting to produce some new protein products which have real potential: these include 2 new and increasingly popular grains Chia and Quinoa.

Chia:
Our modern diet tends to lacks Omega 3, dietary fibre and protein. Chia is said to contain the richest combined source of these nutrients it makes an extremely positive contribution to a healthy global community.

Chia is being grown with some success in WA and reports are it is finding an emerging demand in the USA.

Quinoa:
Pronounced keen-wá this is a grain-like seed. It was cultivated for thousands of years in the Andean region of South America – Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile.
The Quinoa grain comes closer to meeting the genuine protein requirements of the human body than either cow’s milk or soybeans.

It is now being grown, on a relatively small scale commercial basis, in Tasmania.
